The first butterfly that has ever stayed still for long enough for me to capture it (handheld, Canon 70-200 F/4L IS 1/320s F/5 ISO 100).
Don't know what sort of butterfly it is - identification, comments and mods welcome

Very good details.
If this is your first, I'd like to see the next ones! Super sharp Red Admiral. HDave :o)
Gorgeous. I sense there'll be many more to come.
It's a male Red Admiral teocali. Taken very well, nice and sharp with the beautiful marking clearly shown. link
Others have identified it, so all I need say is that this is a great first shot.
Like the details and tones in this - well captured.
Sharp and punchy.
Great picture, congratulations. Send it over to me would you?
You've caught it brilliantly, lots of lovely details!
I agree with HobbitDave. Andy
Thank you all so much for your nice comments - they really mean a lot and boost my confidence. Thanks also for the identification - I had a feeling it was a Red Admiral but didn't want to commit myself in public!!
Am hoping for a few more days of sunshine which might lure another co-operative butterfly out before winter sets in.
