This Amaryllis (Star of Bethlehem) was taken last Christmas and was one of my first attempts with the DSLR. With the exception of tweaking the levels and framing, it is as taken by the camera.
Hope you like it.

Beautifully done Sylvia - vibrant and crisp. It has a feeling of summer rather than that of Christmas with a warm earthy brown backround and the splash of sunlight on the petals.

Why so long to upload this one?

Many thanks for the c&c Andy. It was a very early pic and I found it by chance whilst trawling through the archives. The weather has been so awful lately that I haven't been out with the camera Smile

Beautiful. You've done a really good job of exposing both the shadows and the bright whites and holding everything, with the exception of the tip of the left flower's stamen, in very sharp focus. The colours are vivid and you've really brought out the texture of the petals.

For my taste, the shadows are rather dark and some extra light from the lower left would have helped, I think. Maybe somebody could comment on whether reflectors would have been useful here? I've never used one myself so I can't really say.

Really attractive shot, the hot red is perfect against the sombre background.
