Our shy garden visitor, a Jay (Garrulus glandarius), was actually tempted to come down into the open from the trees yesterday, perching for a very brief moment on a rotten branch I had placed in front of the reddened foliage of our Japanese Acer shrub. Had he chosen to perch further to the right, the background would have been completely red, but that is wildlife for you!
