A Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus), taken during my visit to the Cairngorms National Park last week. Fast as lightning, these little characters, with their "punky" headgear, are a delight to watch. We were lucky that the weather had remained cold, as these little birds are far less active in Spring and Summer.

Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus)
Although not as colourful as some other tits, its 'bridled' face pattern and the upstanding black and white crest make this a most distinctive species. Crested tits feed actively, clinging to trunks and hanging from branches, like most tits, searching for a wide range of invertebrates and pine seeds. They store food extensively during early winter, using it in late winter. Largely confined to ancient Caledonian pine forests and Scots pine plantations. It spends its time foraging on the trunk and large branches of pine trees and after the breeding season will join other tit species in roving flocks. Will visit garden birdtables and feeders. Can be seen all year round and feed on insects and seeds. They are on the RSPB Amber List.
Description taken from RSPB website.

Thank you all so much for your continued overwhelming support of these recent images - as always, very much appreciated Smile

Beautifully photographed Crested Tit Sylvia.
Nicely isolated on the top of the pine needles with lovely eye contact and a superb b/g.

Your Cairngorms visit has afforded you some very fine shots, Sylvia, this being no exception: fine crisp shot of this Crested Tit perched on the conifer needles.
And I like the OOF colour coordinated b/g tone achieved with that wide aperture.
And not a trace of noise that I can see despite the high ISO setting......Canon seem to have that one well and truly sorted.
Ronnie.
