Full frame capture of a juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), taken in our garden a couple of evenings ago. Juveniles have a red cap on the front of their heads, which disappears with maturity. Adult males have a red patch at the back of the neck and females do not.

You cant mistake a juvenile when you see one, can you with the full red crown and a richer red Wink
