The Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), L:8.5" WS: 11" WT: 1.3ozs, is common in brushy woods and damp shaded areas, foraging for insects and other invertebrates and berries. Overall slaty grey plumage with a blackish cap and distinctive orange colouring on the underside of the tail; no other Eastern bird is this colour. The song is a rambling halting warble, with catlike mewing and interspersed sharp chirps. There were a number of these birds in our friends' garden and, like our own robin, they seemed very people-friendly and would perch close-by, watching us and entertaining us with their miaowing!
Many thanks for your C&Cs on my Baltimore Oriole upload and thanks to Pete for the HC on my American Robin - all really appreciated
