A Male Merlin (Falco columbarius) in conversational mood! Taken near Bamburgh, Northumberland against a background of open countryside last Summer, whilst attending a Birds of Prey Workshop. These were working birds, handled by a falconer.

Many thanks for your generous support of yesterday's orchid upload - really appreciated as always Smile

What a stunning shot! I love it.

I came across a falcon at Liverpool Street Station the other day, sitting on the arm of his handler, who was happy to tell me all about how they get rid of the pigeons in the station. The falcon spotted a pigeon and became quite vocal. The pigeon was only a young one that couldn't fly away, all the others had already scarpered! They are very impressive these birds of prey, apparently the one I met kills about 12 pigeons every day in various stations around London!
