Tried to do something with an otherwise ordinary owl shot by adding the circular vignette to fit the face. Not sure it works or not though?

It's subjective, isn't it.
Personally I find it too dark, almost overpowering but then I'm not really a fan of vignetting anyway.
The shot of the owl, however is really good. One I'd be proud to have taken (and I've taken quite a few!)
. . . not sure that that's any help really!

I am a fan of vignetting when done right and for me you seem to have got it write with this one. It gives a little more emphasis to the owl. The shot of the owl is spot on too though there is a little of the lighter plumage below the beak that seems to be blown out a little. Otherwise for me the it's a well worked shot

I agree it is a tad dark now I look at it again so I've upped a mod of my own as I can't do versions.... Thanks for suggestions.
The vignette is a matter of personal choice, - for me, it doesnt add or subtract as theres really nothing in the background.
I do however think it benefits with toning down highlights; reducing contrast which appears a little harsh; and warming the shot slighly as its a littlew cool (blue), and reducing sharpening (has an effect on contrast also) in some areas.
Loaded a mod for comparison.
Nice detailed shot. Shutter speed very slow for a 300mm shot, - but I expect you used a good support.
regards
Willie
Doesn't he look cross?: I like it a lot. Vignette doesn't detract because you only look at the eyes unless criticising a picture - then have to find something to say! The vignette prevents anything in the corners having any effect and the central composition is spot on here. For me, it works a lot.
