Model: My friend Rachel with Sam, my cat.

Rachel came over after school for awhile, and we took a few shots before her sister came to pick her up Smile

Hi,
You have a very good image, but to my mind it is spoilt but a very distacting background. I have put up a mod with the background heavely blurd.
Hope that you can see what I mean.

Welcome to Ephotozine Madelyn, and to the Critique Gallery.

One thing to remember is to let us know your EXIF data or shot settings, - we can give a better critique that way.

I think this is a beautiful shot, and even without the shot settings, I can tell youve handled exposure very well, and used quite a large aperture to get that gorgeous Bokeh in the trees. I oove the Bokeh, though as you can see, not everyone does. Its not possible to obtain the type of blur in Michaels mod with your lens, - its only a post processing mod, as you would need a very long focal length to emulate this ins the camera. Its is a nice type of blur though thatcan work very well.

My suggestion, crop some of the right space away, it places your friend on a third, especially her eyes; the cat us amazingly sharp, - a little sharper than your firens, so the camera may have focused slightly in front of her, - but its possible to sharpen her face selectively in Photoshop to both are sharp.

Apart from that, - there are catchlights in her eyes, though theyre not bright, so you can enhance them by using a small 2 pixel white brush and just touching the existing catchlights.

Ive done this in the mod.

Good work,

regards

Willie

You've already had some brilliant mods and critique, but for my 2p's worth, this is a gorgeous portrait!

I love the way you've captured Rachel looking at the camera and the cat looking off into the distance - you've left quite a lot of space on the right for the cat to look into, I think a little less (as in Willie's mod) improves the image. Both cat and model are beautiful and you've caught them brilliantly! Smile

Very nice and well composed. No EXIF, but could do with girls eyes and cat sharp so smaller aperture - but you should always focus on the main subjects eyes. Just as you shoot, shout or whistle - this would be even better with the cat looking at the camera.

I think you've done a good job here and Bokeh is lovely.
You've got the right idea about camera settings.
Well done.
Kate
