"First folly?" I say -- Wow, if this is how you start, I can't wait to see what you produce as your 100th dance shot.
I was attracted to this even as the small thumbnail version.
Specifically -- your timing is perfect. We see the sole of her left foot before she levels it in preparation to hit the floor and the hair is up to show us her upward momentum.
What struck me was her reflection. It is so detailed I almost thought you Photoshoped it in at first.
Looks like you overcame a difficult lighting situation as well. Nicely done. There is a future in dance photography for you.

This is great. For a first effort I would be very pleased![]()
My only very minor niggle is the few distractions in the background of the mirror
Very difficult to avoid I know in the restricted space, or quite a lot of cloning in photoshop!!!!![]()
Just my observation but certainly a very good shot full of action and detail
Good idea, well executed. I think it would work better if there was more mirror and less surrounds. Maybe get the dancer closer to the mirror, shoot from slightly higher and crop the green thing and the ceiling out. It's a good dynamic angle, but there are too many distractions.

I can imagine the lighting is a nightmare but you have done well here. Good sense of movement and exposure is also good. Nice idea with the mirror. It's a pity about the ceiling being so low - nothing you can do about it obviously. but it detracts from the mood, if you know what I mean.
Best wishes
Catherine
Thanks for all the feedback - very helpful. The room is a sports centre gym so there are lots of background distractions unfortunately. Might see if I can get a higher vantage point to shoot from to cut down on the ceiling. I shot these for a friend who is starting a dance class and she loved them, would like to be able to keep her website updated with improved shots. Was a little unsure about her hair but guess it does add to the movement.
A great shot Lesley, and well worth spending time on a mod, - Ive loaded an example.
Dont forget to provide the shot details (exif data) with the shots for critique, - it helps us with feedback.
Regards
Willie
Very good action shot Lesley, difficult to do I know but I would have tried to remove the bars under the lady's left leg in addition to what Wil has done in the mod, a bit fiddly to do though,
Geoff.
