Taken in a mirror in a very dark corner of my bedroom, the slave flash on the left of the pic is hanging very precariously from a dressing gown hooked on to the door just to the side of the shot. The shot was supposed to be very contrasty. I got it in photoshop and was just going to mess with the levels a bit but decided that this image was much better.

because of how bad the lighting was at the time (athough i got the effect i wanted) I ended up using ISO1600. I can't decide whether or not the noise adds to the image or not....

PS: the compression did it no favors so i've just done it again and uploaded it again. Much sharper/better now!

Agree with Wendy, loose the camera and widen the crop!

oh no, the noise definately adds to the shot, make as much as you like!

p.s any more self portraits to come?

I might have too after comments like those!

you seem to have got the votes of the ladies, good self portrait and good lighting, I think a little more detail in the darker area's would have improved this a lot but it would have overexposed your portrait so I guess it comes down to personal taste!!

Great shot - i like the camera - but I'd also like to see some without it.

Personally, I think this is the best of your self-portraits. The side lighting has worked very well to create a good strong image. As the ladies say, lose the camera/mirror technique and use a tripod on a timer. Same offset pose though...
