This image is a cropped version of a photo I took on my way home from The Lakes last year.
The wide open vista was quite stunning at the time but when I looked at the image back home it didn't look quite so stunning. Some of the beauty was the sheer expanse of the view and just being there. This you can't really put over in an image.
Anyway it got me thinking what should I have concentrated on in the image to make a better photo. Seeing opportunities for photos is not my strong point. I narrowed it down to the cropped version above.
I've uploaded a jpg of the original raw file so you can see what I mean. I know the foreground of the original is boring and too dark in places, I'd have cropped the bottom down a bit if I'd used more of the image.
Your comments would be most appreciated, especially composition and image content.

Sharon, I put the photo up for comments so yours is helpful even if not of a positive nature.
I guess an image is seen in different lights dependent on what interests you in life. Knowing you don't like hills 
, I can understand your comments. For me, I'd love to have a wander around the sunlit hills in the distance. The curves and contours I find quite appealing. To me they are the focus of the image.
Your comment got me thinking though. In many landscapes I don't see a point of focus, just a dominant object perhaps. Most individual components of a landscape, if isolated from the image hold only a fleeting interest to me, they are part of a bigger picture. It is the thoughts landscapes provoke and the shapes created in the images that attract me to them.

Hi Tony. The crop you've chosen work nicely. I agree the bits you've chopped out (apart from one I'll mention later) hold little interest.
There's a nice curving line through the shot from the bottom left to the tree mid right then back left again to the hills out back. Only thing I'd change (and this is purely a personal thing) is to crop a little more of the bottom (just below the line of the fg field) and then include a little more of the sky (the bit I do find interesting).
Technically, a possible dodge of the highlights and a burn of the shadows might produce a little more contrast but overall it's a very pleasing shot.
