What is this oddball doing in from the ocean and
a little way up the Courtenay river? Seals normally
have a high rounded head. River otter have a flat
and squared head. That is a looong row of quill
like whiskers. Oh wise one, what do you think?

I think it's a seal swimming on its back. The nostrils can be seen below the whiskers and the mouth.

great shot Tony Jan and i see a lot of these guys from our kayaks they get up to all sorts of tricks including trying to get on the kayak

Right Peter. Seals seem to be the most good natured of all
animals. Never seem to fight. Share fish, sense of humour,
playful. A seal brushed up against me off English Bay in
Vancouver in the 70s. Super smooth coat. I swam back fast! TG
