Hello Martin.

I hope you don't mind but I thought I should share a couple of things with you. I don't want to curb the enthusiasm of somebody learning photography.

I would forget about Photoshop for now and concentrate on getting the picture right in the first place as it is much easier to adjust with a good shot. The shot is essentially a good idea but the problem is exposure and shadows. The couple are a bit under exposed and tend to blend into the wall instead of standing out. The shadows are probabally created by the flash. Try and get the couple near a window for natural light and use 'spot' exposure on your camera.
Finally the top of a chair has crept in on the left, either crop it out or move closer. Why not try the shot again Martin and experiment.

I like thought behind it, street scene etc. Paul is corect about the metering but spot metering is not always possible on a moving subject. Some times I dial in a minus exposure value so I can adjust later in PS.
