Hi
This was taken on a recent trip to Uganda, the boats were used by the local people to cross Lake Bunyoni. This was taken in the early evening.

Nice lead in lines and nice texture on the boats. I would like to see a colour version of this.

I would also like to see another shot from slightly further back, showing more of the lake - the background looks intriguing and I think there is another picture to be had. Showing a few more boats in a looser crop, putting them in context with the lake and far shore would work for me too.

Hey yeah, I like it in many ways and the perspective on the boat is good. My feeling is that the perspective and angle you have would have been better if there was only one boat. I think a landscape image from further back, but low down would have been interesting... Obviously I'm not imagining a trip back especially for that and I think it is an appealing image as it is.

I like the image and the detail on the boats, Tracey. I think this either needs more of the surrounding lake showing, or a closer take on the boats. As it stands, I want to see more of the lake. I have done a modification where I cropped the top and bottom, making it more abstract, concentrating all attention on the boats.

Hi
Thank you for taking the time to look at my image and give it critique. When I saw the boats on the lake, I knew the image I wanted to try and capture, it was low down with a wide angle lense looking down the length of the boats to lead the eye to the island in the lake (the trees that you can see in the middle at the top), because that was the image in my head I didn't think to take any other shot. With hindsight, I should have taken more including a landscape, as well as stepping back to get more of the lake in, it's a bit late now - hahaha.....!!!!
Thank you also to Pamela for the modification, I see what you mean. Smile
Thanks again
Tracey

Hi Tracey,

I have the benefit of showing up late to this shot, and reading the comments and your own description of what you intended.

I agree with Nick, and I think you could have achieved exactly what you wanted just by taking that step back, and lowering your camera only a couple of inches. Its such a wide angle lens (assuming you used 10 mm, - as theres no exif data uploaded). The shot in the contact of the lake is whats makes it work, and the suggestions to add more lake are simply to help balance the composition, so your vision is not only realized in the finished product, but looks better overall.

Pamela has offered a mod shoing the boats without the lake as an example, and I have uploaded a mod with more lake, just to show how much of a difference it can make to the image to consider composition in the viewfinder. The shot in your mind should try to include composition, - thats the secret to great shots.

I do like it, - but it works much better with more lake.

Regards

Willie

WOW - Willie, I would never have thought to stretch part of the image like that and it has made such a difference, I'm definitely going to have a go at doing that. Thank you for the idea, I love it.
Best Wishes
