Hi
I've reworked this image, original version is contained in my gallery. I wanted to try and warm the sky up a bit and give a bit more emphasis on the largest balloon (bottom left).

Please let me have your critique and any mods you may like to submit. I want to try and improve this image if possible.

Can anyone think of a better title?

Best Wishes
Tracey

An amazing shot. I have never seen the like of it before.
(I appreciate that such comment is not critique, nor is it particularly helpful, but ....)

I would certainly clone out the yellow one in the distance. I missed completely it until I counted - then came to the conclusion that it must be one of the twelve.

Hot Air; Luftbalun (from an old popular song).

Similar to before, but a different method. The key balloon is too close to the bottom and left.

I increased the size of the canvas top, left and bottom to give the more room. I have CS5, - so theres a content aware scale tool that makes this not too difficult. if you have CS4 or CS5 I can point you in the right direction for how to do this.

Theres too much RED in the colour, - its "blooming". so I lowered the sat for red but left it in the large and red balloons.

Nice shot.

Much improved from the original and the colours really stand out from the background. While the mod does improve the space around the key balloon (I wouldn't have a clue how to do stuff like that!) it then takes the space from the others on the right so the balance is again lost. The clarity also seems to suffer from the reduction in colour....so for me it is the colour and comp of yours and the space left and bottom of the mod by Banehawi Wink

The composition needs to be based on the key balloon, - trying to keep the rest in line will prevent the main balloon form being positioned correctly Martin.

This is a great shot. Were you in another balloon?

How about '11 balloons' (without the yellow one) or '7 Red Balloons and other colours' (i.e. something based around the 99 Red Balloons pop song by Nina). Odd numbers are best, apparently, though rules are to be broken!

Love the road snaking under the scene as if stiching all the balloons together...

Hi Tracey

This is the first time I've ever commented in the CG - I'm a beginner so am not really qualified to advise. This is a lovely shot though and I hope you don't mind me throwing in my two penneth.

Something struck me when I read Willie and Martin's discussion on the composition. I wonder if it could be improved by cropping out the two stray straggling balloons on the right-hand side. This would make the image more of a square format and the eye would follow the balloons - all in a line diagonally across the image from left to right - in a straight line.

Don't know if this is compositionally correct, or even if it would be an improvement. Maybe the others can comment on my idea.

You'd have to change the title though........something like Ten Balloon Trip/Trail etc etc.

Cheers

Elaine

Elaine - beginner or not, your opinion is as valid as anyone else. We can all learn from each other. I like this as with the other and would not crop. i think you have over done the warming up and the sun was, unfortunately, in the wrong position for ideal lighting. I would darken the sky just a touch and attempt to lighten and increase contrast a touch in the foreground.

Impossible to judge sharpness, but if you are looking at salon entry with this, suitable sharpness of original will be required. I had a few salon acceptances in the old printing days - 16x12 and 20x16 mono prints - some in this country and a few in the middle east. I then began to wonder if it was worth the trouble and cost, so gave up.

Hi Tracey,

I've been thinking of titles: This is what comes to mind when I look at your image.

Up, Up and Away
Up Where the Air is Clear
Flight of Freedom
Transcendence
Aerial Manoeuvres
A Journey Like No Other
Riding the Breeze
Free-Flying
Flight of Fancy
Untethered & Airborne
Stillness

Cheers

WOW - what a response to this image. Thank you all so much for your comments and critique, it's exactly what I was looking for.

Willie - I agree with the spacing to the bottom and right of the image - how did you do that? I have CS5.

Elaine - Thank you for your feedback, as Paul says, very valid. Thank you also for the suggested titles, I particularly like "A Journey Like No Other" and "Riding The Breeze", I'm rubbish at naming my pictures and struggle to come up with something worthy.

Martin and Everyone Else - Thank you for your lovely comments. Yes, I was also in a balloon, which was alot higher than the others and gave me the fantastic view that you see. It was an amazing experience and one I would recommend to anyone who has the chance to do it.

Thanks again everyone.

Best Wishes
Tracey

Willie - I've sussed out how to use the Content Aware Tool, although mine doesn't look as neat as yours, the buildings in the bottom left of mine look stretched, whereas yours are hardly noticeable, not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it still looks compositionally better than the original - thanks.

Strokebloke and Kate - I've cloned out the yellow balloon and it looks much better, so thanks for that.

Thanks Everyone.

Make more canvas at the bottom. Use the marquees tool to select an area along the bottom, up to about 1/8 up the balloon. make sure you have a layer copy. Use content aware to drag the image into the new canvas.

If you find theres too much obvious stretching, it means the areas you selected was too small,, so start again an use a larger (highrer up )area. When it looks OK, - except for the balloon which may elongate, use a later mas and paint with black on the bottom of the balloon only, to restire the ballon dimensions. All the rest remains stretched. You might have to do a very small amount of cloning if you remove some of the required background.

try it and let me know if its OK.

Hi Tracey,
Beautiful shot!

Only saw it now as just back from a week in Luxor. I was proud of my attempts but you've got fantastic colours here.
