Still in mono mode! Rothesay Castle is unique among Scottish castles, both for its early date and for its circular form. It was built by Walter, 3rd High Steward (1204–41) as a bulwark against the Norwegians. In 1230 King Håkon IV of Norway sent a fleet to retake the Isle of Bute. The siege of Rothesay Castle lasted three days. The Castle was again taken by the Norse, this time under the personal command of Håkon IV, in 1263. The Stewarts took steps to prevent the castle falling into enemy hands ever again by adding four formidable projecting towers. After a turbulent history, the castle went into decline after the 15th century, and was eventually restored to its present appearance in the 19th century by the 3rd Marquess of Bute.
Taken the following day after my previous upload - on Christmas Day morning - and though it was at least fine, in the poor light I could only manage 1/8 second, hand-held, at ISO 400. The railings I had to poke the camera through to get the shot came in handy to help steady the camera!

Curious to have the canon pointing at the castle rather than away from it...
Grimly gritty, in a very Scottish way. I'm taking careful notes, you had an interesting itinerary!

Glad you didn't light the touch paper, Trev![]()
. Fine composition with the canon in the f/g.
The railings came in handy to allow a shot at 1/8 sec.
Somehow with the subject matter and the rather dismal weather, the B and W presentation works really well.
Ronnie.
A good piece of work for a dull day. You always manage to bring out plenty of detail, in words as well as in your photographs!

Beautifully composed and taken image. Pin sharp and well processed. Takes us back to those "grey times". ![]()

Didn't recognise you in b&w, Trev.
Suits you, though. Very well chosen pov and an excellent crop to boot, young man.

Well Trevor I’m enjoying your “Mono Mode”, super image love the comp & processing.
