Following on from my Spinning a yarn upload, here's another from the Armley Mills Industrial Museum. I can remember my granny having a Singer sewing machine like these - it was incorporated into a sort of rectangular unit, with ornate wrought iron legs each end, to which a treadle (like in this image) was attached so it could be operated by foot. When not in use, the machine could be folded down below the polished wooden top, which could then be used as a table.

Love the processing on this Trevor, looks great.
My Granny too had a Singer machine, when I was a lad. It was a fascinating thing to play with.

Lovely image brings back lots of memories. our local pub has one as a table - with treadle but excludes M/C Looks like lots remeber the treadle Singer M/C -.... Who remembers the manual washing mangles............ ouch! ------- Thats when they nip your fingers.............
Industrial Archaeology is endlessly fascinating. In this photo the room itself seems to continue into the far distance by virtue of the included image, which might well be an old photo itself. Very nicely done, Trev.
We finally threw out Moira's manual Singer sewing machine a couple of years ago, while I reckoned I was still strong enough to lift it into the car boot ![]()

Thanks a bundle, I learnt to sew on one of these... ![]()
Seriously, a lovely image of a scene that's frozen in time. It's as though the workers have just gone off for their lunch break. Almost a Marie Celeste feel.

I have an oxo tin just like that - I keep my mother's buttons in it - I wonder what they kept in it !!!!
I also learn to sew on one of these, and it was a dickens of a job to get the treadle into a good rhythm at times, if you lost the rhythm the sewing would get into a right mess ![]()

I still have my singer but not as old as these Trevor, great work
Lots to look at in this scene Trev. should love to go in there with my camera! Beautifully processed image!
Memories for me too - Mum had a Singer when I was little - also had a couple of tables with the treadles in the pub my parents owned later on.
