A bit brain-dead on titles again! Sad Everyone going up - or down, as I was here - takes photos on Whitby's 199 steps, but you always seem to get the view looking down. I shot a few looking both directions, and rather liked the zig-zag pattern of shadows being cast by the railings, especially when looking up. V3 is your bog standard shot looking down towards the harbour and West Pier.

Techie stuff: see Exif

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.

It's a Long Way Down A fine series of well composed images, I particularly remember climbing up these on a hot sunny day!

The bog standard does take a lot of beating, it being such a breath taking scene, Trev, but what a good idea to try the view in reverse.
Makes my old legs weary just looking at itWink

Excellent variation on this scene. v2 for the greater depth and complete lamppost. I like the shadows, going from zig-zag to obliques (slashes) as you go up the steps. Classic Whitby, Trev.

Has to be V1 for me, love the way the steps disjoint the railings shadow, and all the space given to the steps looks good. I prefer this slightly different angle to V2 because you have more of the texture on the front of the steps.

I love these and appreciate the unusual nature of V1 and V2. I've climbed those steps a hundred or more times but never registered the shadow patterns before: usually I get all the way up without pausing but my eyes are probably shut most of the time Smile

Those steps look so innocuous but I bet they're the devil to get down.

V2 for me as it really shows the enormity of the task in climbing them, and I love the shadows.

Those shadows really make v1 & 2, Trev. Those steps remind me of the ones we used to do circuit training on behind the rowing club in Southampton. Jog up and as fast as possible down. 20 times. I think there was only 50-ish though, not 199. That was after a 3 mile run round the local common as well!
