Fascinated to see this photo. I have a copy of The Church Monthly Magazine of 1899 which describes how this well happened to be donated to the people of Ipsden, Oxfordshire, by the Maharaja of Benares. In those days Ipsden had a water shortage problem. The well was opened for use in 1863.
