A Macaroni penguin and her chick. I love the expression on their faces! Taken at Living Coasts, Torquay.

I agree about the expressions on the faces.

I suspect the black background has been added to mask an otherwise untidy or ugly original background, but for me it doesn't look right. Maybe it would have been better to darken down what was there to lessen its impact rather than remove it altogether.

Thanks for your observation John. The original background is in fact a very dark hole in an overhanging cliff. Not much going for it so I decided to clone it out. I still have it though so can re-submit if I want to.
I like the feathering on the adult's coat Leo and the baby has a soft downy coat; quite different. They both have the yellow wisps on top of their heads.
Thanks for your comments everyone.

I want to go there, we were in Torquay but didn't have time to do everything. Love the detail on the birds, nice shot.

These two are just so delightful, really didn't notice the black bg until someone else mentioned it and do I care? That would be "No!" because the details and poses of the Penguins are just wonderful.

Thanks Carol. I hope you can manage it next time you are in the area. It really is a delightful place, well worth a visit.
Thank you too Ann, I couldn't choose my bg and it was too messy. Anyway it was the birds themselves that I wanted to show everyone.
