The weekend before last was the Britcar24 hour race at Silverstone. About 60 cars on track at the start and a nonstop 24 hour race in what is hoped to become a UK version of the famous 24 hours of Le Mans. Well a version for the not so big teams.
I was there helping out a mate who was running a team for EMC Motorsport and as such he secured me a press pass. Over the weekend I took 1600 photos and had 2 hours sleep during the race..but it was great ![]()
Anyway, this was one of their cars, placed 4th in class and 19th overall. Not bad considering the budget they had and the fact that they started 52nd! Their leading car came 3rd in class and 18th overall with just 1 lap seperating them after over 500 laps and 1,600 miles.
The title comes from the fact that this was taken at 2.30 on Sunday afternoon. After you've been racing for 22 hours, you'd expect that you were almost there, but 2 hours in most forms of motorsport is a long race and there are still plenty of things that can go wrong!
I liked it because I liked the sun, which has just come out, giving the cars paint a bit more depth and highlighting its battle scars and because I'd captured the BRDC stand in the background, which is identifiable as being at Silverstone rather than any old race track.

Thanks Ian. I was pretty happy with my throw away rate, the worst being the early evening when it was too dark for my lens, but not dark enough for blurry flash shots ![]()
Only screwed up 2 important shots during the weekend, the tiredness didn't hit home until about 8pm that night..
sounds like a good time. Not too many folks in that grandstand then ?

That one is the BRDC members stand, I did see 2 people there at one point on Saturday ![]()
The event attracts very low numbers as they're not the best at marketing and advertising. However, they've had the venue confirmed until 2010, so are promising to try harder next year. That and the fact that Silverstone can accomodate F1 levels of spectators, means that it always looks empty.
