Sitting in a hippo hide at midday in Zambia. Nothing happening, except for the oxpeckers doing their daily cleaning job. The light was rubbish, so I borrowed my husband's polariser, only to find it had dropped off my lens and landed between the hide and the hippo pool....whereupon the hippos wondered what was happening (V2), our armed guard, Charles, went to rescue it (V3) and the hippos, after their initial panic, started to settle down again.(V4)
