It is great to see you posting again Victor. I hope you and the family are all in good health.

Forgive me if my interpretation is incorrect, but I do not think this image is as obvious in meaning as it appears. The title, for example, is very clever and somewhat misleading. On a basic level, this image could convey an “internal battle”, - where the pill represents demons, and the butterfly, the angels. However, I feel there is a much deeper and more positive meaning in this composition.

Before I present you with my interpretation, I have to congratulate you on the Artwork I see before me. Quality is never in question in all the Art you produce, and this composition continues that extraordinary feature – but the most significant aspect for me in this particular image is the actual imagination involved in its production and presentation. This is a bold image, and with only two items placed in the centre of a white canvas, it is also incredibly eye-catching and thought provoking. Even the insertion of bracketed text beneath the central subjects seems to add more significance to the composition. In short, this is a masterstroke of genius.

This is a very personal Artistic composition; therefore, I shall choose my words carefully in my summation. “We all have our demons”, is a common phrase, often used as a trendy intellectual remark, when in fact, it is merely “psychobabble”. Although the pill could mean “demons”, I would like to think its symbolism goes deeper. I imagine that the butterfly represents rebirth, or emergence, and it has shaken loose some of the chains, which once held it captive for so long. Following this line of thought, I now see the pill as a “cocoon”, from which the butterfly has “hatched”. Yet, because the pill is still intact, it suggests “new birth” – thus adding credence to the positive imagery I sense.

Taking this imagery further – the positioning of the two subjects, (side by side), has relevance. It further helps to conjure up this feeling of emergence, harmony, or expectancy. Whatever the precise meaning of this composition may be, I am hopeful that some sort of transformation has occurred, and a healthy one at that. The fact that the background canvas is plain white with no features whatsoever does suggest “flight from captivity”, into the purity of freedom.

Of course, my interpretation could equally be called psychobabble. However, I feel able to relate to this image on a deep emotional level. I also sit back in awe at the ability you possess to communicate complex issues with such clarity of thought and sheer ingenuity. Art of this standard is rare, and that makes this composition even more special. As I end my comment, I consider the fact that if you can create Artwork as skilful and intriguing as this, which also emits powerful emotional content – I believe you can achieve anything.

Take care Victor.

KJ
