I'd have been tempted to put the horizon even higher in the frame, especially if there was more detail in the reflection.

Not a bad "that's all I got" type of shot.

I think the photo has been rotated a little anti-clockwise and might need fixing. Otherwise the only other suggestion would be to gently darken round the subject to stop eyes wandering into the brighter sky.

Not bad - I like the muted colours, but not too sure at the white blockiness around the signal box and water tower. Maybe try Unsharp Mask at (say) 30% and radius of 60-120, or Screen mode to lighten the image ...

... and I think you can justify pulling the exposure back a bit ... the greens at the water's edge look a little pale. That would also have the effect of boosting the lovely browns a touch as well.

I assume this was taken in colour and converted to B+W in Photoshop.

Good conversion (lots are insipid, lacking contrast).

Looks like the image would be good for infrared, too. Have you tried using the channel mixer to produce a fake IR-type image eg by having 150% red -100% green +50% blue ??

I'd like to make a couple of suggestions ...

1) Try making the yellow light (from the sodium lighting) less conspicuous - maybe even desaturate those areas (especially the castle). THey're very distracting.

2) How about trying a portrait format of this area -thinking of including some of Princes St to balance out the castle a little.
