Firstly thanks to everyone for their help, advice, information and good wishes on my last upload of Aspendos Amphitheatre - it's much appreciated.

These are the Manavgat Falls in Turkey.

I took loads of shots of this scene at different shutter speeds to try various degrees of blurring the water, and this was my favourite shot.

I chose to upload it because of the composition, there's plenty of water activity in the foreground, and there aren't too many blown highlights. I would have liked maybe a touch more blur in the water, but the shots I'd taken seemed to have too many blown highlights.

I've had to process the JPEG file as Elements 10 doesn't recognise my new camera's RAW file...will upgrade to Elements 12 soon.

Any ideas and advice would be most welcome.
Thanks for looking Grin
Elaine

I dont think you have to upgrade Elements, just download the latest Camera Raw file from Adobe?

You have two version here Elaine, - is there one you prefer?

Blurred water has been done to death IMO, and I personally prefer something like this.

If you wanted blur, as you know, you would need a longer exposure time. So in these good light conditions, you would need to use a "stopper" filter, one that would drop the light level by one or two stops, allowing a longer exposure.

Is this what you wanted to know, or are you looking to apply blur to one of thee images?

Regards

Willie

Hi Willie,

I wanted to produce the blur in-camera and I realise from your helpful critique that I need to add an ND filter to my camera kit - the penny has dropped that the scene was just too bright to get the amount of blur that I wanted without blown-out highlights....thanks for that Grin

Looking at both versions this morning I guess I prefer v1. v2 has better detail but with that comes more noise in the sky, so.....yes, it has to be v1 for me.

Thanks for your help.....a "stopper" filter now added to my shopping list.

Cheers

A perfectly good pictorial record of high quality. What else to say? Stay with sharp water. The milky blurred stuff is grossly over done and we don't see water as blurred.

A super capture, Elaine - think V2 shows more detail, so that's my fave Smile
As regards processing the Raw file, my Elements 11 didn't recognise my D7100's Raw files either! Sad To get it to work, you can go to the Adobe website, look for your camera model, and you can either update the 'Camera Raw.8bi' plug-in - version 7.4 it is for the D7100, and it replaces the old plug-in. Alternatively you can download the DNG Converter and convert your Raw NEF files to DNG files, which is a universal file that works with any brand of camera. These will then open in the Elements Camera Raw Editor. It costs you nothing, so is cheaper than buying the newer Elements 12! Hope this helps Smile
