In this shot I tried to take the photo without the child seeing what I was doing, every time I got close to her she covered her face and shyed away.

Hi Margaret.
Not easy to get shots of kids, is it!
You can often get candids at weddings with long lenses, but since you havent loaded any settings from the shot, I have no idea what focal length, or any other setting you used. So Im flying blind here in a way, and relying only on what I see.
I like the diagonal presentation of her eyes; I would prefer her to be looking at you, but not to be; its a little soft, most noticeably in the eyes. To me, - and maybe only me, - her skin tone is rendered a little too red; the image overall is a little underexposed, and a little low in contrast.
I would suggest a tighter crop as in the mod. I have also adjusted the colout balance for her skin, adjusted exposure and contrast, and sharpened. I have two mods, - and mod2 is a version of mod1 with a diffuse glow applied to give a softer, dreamier look.
Hope you find this helpful,
regards
Willie
Hi Both, Thank you for your coments
The photo was taken with a Nikon D200 using a Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens
f/11 1/500sec ISO-400.
This was taken at my neighbours christening party and this little girl was very camera shy. every time she saw me and my camera she covered her face so I was lucky to get this shot.
Thank you for your Mods Willie they are very good love the skin tones you have achived with them ![]()
Once again thanks for your coments they are very much apreciated.
