Cotton Reels and Hats v2

Cotton Reels and Hats v2Excellent again Ann, the colours and text ping out a bit more in this version.

Banding shouldn’t happen if you work in 16bit per channel mode, but it does! The blur tool in Photoshop is one of the worst culprits. To get rid of banding, I select the area in question with a decent feathered edge and apply approx 0.5 to 1.5% noise. That usually does the trick.

Broad Bodied Chasers

Broad Bodied ChasersSome good advice from Steve Karen.

You could have tried to get in a better position so both dragons were the same distance from you, that would be an alternative to increasing the DOF. Using a fill flash might help but you have to be careful not to black out the background. And my personal favourite method, Stack focus, lots of fast shutter speed shots, taken at slightly different focus points then put the images together to make one super crisp image, hard work, but very effective.

Old Wardour's treat

Old Wardour's treatNice work Jon, I like it.

HDR can sometimes be a bit too agressive on skies, producing grey clouds that don't fit the scene, I often tone map two versions, then compound these in P/S.

Pinnochio

PinnochioHi Karen, excellent macro. Maybe not as clinical as some you see on here but it's a real scene.

I use noise ninja plugin for p/s for my noise. And I use it on either a selection or a seperate layer and then delete the areas where noise/detail need to stay. Noise ninja lets you adjust the amount of reduction it gives.
