We got back from our recent visit to London to find that the new sign outside a refurbished pub had made it to the front page of the local weekly, so despite the 'pub sign challenge' having fizzled out we just had to go and have a look.

It appears that some locals are up in arms at the hint of lèse-majesté (which 'Spitting Image' got away with 20 years ago and Rowlandson 200 years ago): according to the paper lots of them were 'jolly cross'.

The pub owner claims the painting is his mum whose name is Betty; her husband is Phil and she has his name tattooed on her arm.

Approached by the local press, Buck House had no comment to make . . . .

I think its delightful - and surely it can only be seen as a bit of fun rather than offensive - even HRH must laugh from time to time.
She's well dressed though with ear rings and necklace, though bare arms is a bit OTT. Maybe short sleeves would be more in keeping .............and a brooch which seems to be missing..........along with a handbag.............and gloves.............and a bracelet ......................oh well !!

One would assume one had enough of the folding beer tokens (the ones with The Queens head pictured there upon) to afford the services of a professional tattoo artist who could have tattooed the image the right way up. Ma'am's tottoo is upside down.Grin

Not when she's elbow-wrestling!
I've just done a bit of Googling, and this has got the Mail upset, so it's got to be OK!

Some people have no sense of humour, I seeno reason to be up in arms about this (excuse the pun) royalist or not, great post Bill made me chuckle.

Well it's a gutsy sign for sure....I take it the owners are not royalists! Reminds me of some of our satirical cartoons that come out in the paper from time to time.

I feel very sorry for those people with their atrophied sense of humour; it's quite a serious condition Wink

I would not want Ma'am serving behind a bar down at Leith docks Bill.I could not enjoy my Guinness with all the tourist's she would attract. And like one barmaid I know,I could not see her giving that raunchy performance of ''Girls Just Like To Have Fun'' at the Karaoke nights !!

What a hoot! I love it when people get upset about such a bit of fun, why should royalty be immune from mockery?

I think the queen is a much bigger person than many people think, I really don't see her being offended by this at all.

I know that woman! I saw her once at a garden party. No, not one of THOSE garden parties. I was one of 100,000 guests, so I don't suppose she saw me.

Great fun . I'm sure the Queen would think it extremely funny . I'm sure Phillip would have a laugh as well. Dreary people people make me feel sad for them . Life should be a big smile as it doesn't last too long Smile xxxx

A good bit of armless fun Bill, I can't see why people are kicking up such a stINK, there's nothing TATTY and vulgar about that sign

I think the Queen would smile at this. I love the expensive jewellery around her neck.
