A week ago Danny Brannigan (danbrann), commenting on The Adam, asked if I could make the Fox And Hounds as amusing. Well, I had already prepared the shot, though I'm unsure of his criteria for amusingness in this instance!

The said establishment is a very local pub that I'm never likely to see the inside of as it's visited by too many former students and is only a stone's throw from my old place of work. Not that I could throw a stone that far nor that accurately - but I don't get the practice that I attribute to certain of my former students...........

I appreciate originality in all walks of life; we still have pub signs that display this quality despite the onward march of corporate nonentity. You can see a few in my album; the images are sometimes slightly manipulated only in order to bring out the artistic qualities of the originals. Here I've had to make use of modificatory and reconstructive technology to disguise a messy background. Oh, well...

But the sign is bonny - and I like the inference that the fox is in controlWink

Yes, the sign and colours stand out well against the painted effect in the background...and I love the pose of the fox.

Your collection is wonderful....I hope the individuality of pubs and shops never goes away entirely in the mire of mediocrity. Good manipulations in this.

You are gathering a great collection of signs-- perhaps a poster montage is up and coming?

Entirely agree with your comments Bill. A splendid image that jumps out of the screen. Like the way you have isolated it with the narrow depth of field.

You have presented this beautifully, it has humour, colour and history, and I think the background is splendid.

What a great sign and the first thing that I spotted was the humour you mentioned with the sly old fox contrasting with the dogs madly dashing around

My birth name is "Fuchs" and I had always a special love for foxes. This is a sign I would like to put up on the patio, lovely.

A good mix of actual and adjusted here sir, also good use of that long lens, from a high vantage point I guess.
