This is a part of a Church floor in Wismar in Northern Germany.

This used to be the East of Germany, and during the Second World War many of the churches became unitended casualties and then lay in ruins becuase the DDR either chose not to invest in them or could not afford to ( not true across the board some were well restored.)

Since reunifications several have been either totally or partially restored. This church was partially restored. It struck me that this original window has been giving the same light for centuries in the same way, and there seemed a sense of peace in that.

This is excellent. The stillness of the stone, just enough of those verticals to anchor the image; then the rippling light and shadows filling the frame.
Perfect in b&w, no distractions...

Beautiful capture of light and shadow, strong composition; just had to be in b&w.
I was in Wismar the day after German reunification in October 1990; I suspect that I know this church, which was completely inaccessible then.

The light and shadows gives off a lovely tranquility. An almost abstract image but anchored in reality by the stone wall.
