I actually think it works quite well because the body is still identifiable even though it's out of focus. You've resolved the hairs on its legs really well! You say you cropped this from a version that didn't quite work but I think I'd like to see a bit more white space particularly at the top and bottom

It's a pleasing enough shot but I think it could be strengthened in a number of ways. Firstly you could try adding a touch of blue to the mid-tones and then boost the contrast a bit. More radically I'd suggest a crop, to lose the big tree of the left, the half building on the right and the clouds to just above the tiny patch of blue that's over the right side of the mill (if that makes sense). I would also be tempted to try it in mono, perhaps with a sepia tint
