A 1.6m seafront tower initially dubbed the "vertical pier" has opened to the public.

The Redcar Beacon is part of a 75m redevelopment of the town's seafront.

The structure has drawn criticism from some residents who had favoured a horizontal, rather than a vertical, pier.

Love it or hate it there's no disputing that Redcar's vertical pier adds a touch of colour on a wet rainy evening so I just had to take a shot.

A very modern helter skelter to me, a very large one. You've produced a superb picture of it Sam.
