This looks familiar, is it Stirling by any chance?
Cemeteries are one of my favourite locations, and a lot of other people are attracted to them. For me, they put us in touch with the past, with personal stories, glimpses of lives long since over, families' love, pride and sorrow.
V2 actually says more to me here, although it's the more distant, less involved view. It speaks of orderliness. In V1 I want to get closer, lower down, look for the individuality in gravestones.
I also want a bit more brightness, contrast, perhaps a tighter crop at the sides (that will involve cloning out the bit of tree top right), and definitely I want less aggressive sharpening. (Look at the stepped effect along the top edge of the roof - that's a sign of over-sharpening).
The light wasn't doing you any favours. Cemeteries need angled light that will catch the edges of stones and define them, and also define the inscriptions crisply.
V2 for me as well, however a long lens to compress the shot would of worked better (imho)
basically looks quite a good composition, may be stronger from lower down making the front stone cover the buildings and be more dominant.
in truth i think its the right scene taken the wrong day, the sky isnt quite strong enough, and had a very bright patch over the house, most important of all is the lack of any directional light to add contrast and life.
its somewhere id try several times until the right conditions turn up, for me its all about light, light makes an image .
I like this type of image. Cemeteries can provide many good image opportunities, - older ones that is.
I think these are quite good, - V2 being the best, as they give a sense of place, and connection with a community.
Higher contrast monos I think work best, - loaded a version of V2 as an example.
thanks for crits and comment
Normal tones but all three rather heavy and dark but without the sombre cemetry effect. Cemeteries need drama, lighting, mist, whatever. These just look a bit under and lacking contrast to me.
