Moonshots: 50 Years of NASA Space Exploration Seen through Hasselblad Cameras

When it comes to space photography, NASA and Hasselblad go way back and a new book titled 'Moonshots' celebrates the long history these two well-known companies have together.

Working with NASA's archives of Hasselblad images, aerospace author Piers Bizony has compiled a rather lovely looking large-format book that explores Apollo voyages as well as equally famous photos from precursor Gemini missions. The book also features astronaut selfies as well as images captured by Space Shuttle crews. There are even shots of the International Space Station under construction.

In the introduction to the book, Piers writes: "The photographs taken on film by American astronauts five decades ago still have the power to amaze us, in our digital age. They are a vivid reminder of past achievements, but also lay down a challenge for the future." And the images we're able to share with you below definitely confirm this with views from space, captured many moons ago, that still make you say 'wow' when you view them.

'MOONSHOTS - 50 Years of NASA Space Exploration Seen through Hasselblad Cameras', published by Voyageur Press, will be available from October over on Amazon for £60.

Gemini IV copilot Ed White conducts the first American spacewalk on June 3, 1965. He found the experience exhilarating, although his suit ballooned in the vacuum of space, and he found it hard to get back into the spacecraft.
