The Sony World Photography Awards' first shortlist announcement of 2019 has arrived with several British photographers making the shortlist.

The World Photography Organisation has today revealed the shortlisted photographers for the Open and Youth competitions of the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards where 13 British photographers have made the shortlist.
The Open shortlist comprises stunning works selected across ten diverse categories. The shortlist features 12 British photographers from a wide array of backgrounds, including fine art photographers Richard Ansett and Neil Burnell, professional photographers such as Sean Hayes, semi-professionals such as Nick Edwards and enthusiasts including Tracey Lund and Shaun Mills.
The shortlisted photographers are based everywhere from Cowes to East Yorkshire, to Belgium and Abu Dhabi. The 12 photographers have been chosen from across five categories; Architecture, Motion, Portraiture, Natural World & Wildlife and Landscape.

The Youth shortlist features the top eight single images taken by 12-19-year-olds and 16-years-old Shrewsbury-based student Emma Last has been shortlisted for a self-portrait entitled 'Divided'.

All those shortlisted now go on to compete against talented photographers from across the world to win their categories and have the chance to become Open Photographer of the Year and Youth Photographer of the Year.
