Thirteen British photographers are today named on the shortlist of the Sony World Photography Awards.

The shortlisted photographers and categories are:


Professional competition

  • Rich Wiles, Arts & Culture
  • Jonathan Banks, Campaign
  • Jonathan Syer, Campaign
  • Simon Butterworth, Landscape
  • Simon Norfolk, Landscape
  • Julia Fullerton-Batten, Lifestyle
  • Dougie Wallace, Portraiture

Open competition

  • Antony Crossfield, Enhanced
  • Darren Nisbett, Low Light
  • Norman Quinn, Panoramic
  • Simon Morris, People
  • ByronDilkes, Travel

Youth competition

  • Alex Foden, Environment

The shortlisted images were selected from a record-breaking 173,44 images from 171 countries, the highest number of submissions in the awards’ eight-year history and a 24% increase on the 2014 competition.

The shortlisted photographers will have their images shown as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition in London’s historic Somerset House from 24 April - 10 May.  The exhibition includes a special display of the still images, films and books of Elliott Erwitt, recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Photography prize at the Sony World Photography Awards.

The winners of all the Open and Youth categories will be revealed on 31 March and the thirteen Professional category winners will be announced on 23 April 2015 at an awards ceremony in London. 

At the same ceremony, the recipient of the coveted L’Iris d’Or/ Professional Photographer of the Year title plus a $25,000 prize will be revealed along with the winners of the Professional categories, overall Youth and Student winners plus the Open Photographer of the Year, who receives a $5,000 prize.
