Patti is 3 Legged Thing's first standard tripod offering, with the others in the range all aimed at travellers. Patti, named after Punk rock star Patti Smith, is the latest in the Punks tripod range, which also includes the Brian, Corey, Travis and Billy models.
Patti is a flip-lock tripod aimed at general use. The tripod can support loads of up to 10kg and has a reversible and removable centre column. It's available in grey/blue or there's also an 'Anarchy' colourway that's all matte black. It retails for £99.99 from the 3 Legged Thing website. Here, we take a look at how it performs.
3 Legged Thing Punks Patti Features
The Patti is an all-rounder that has 4-section clip-lock legs. it folds down to 45cm in length. The centre column is reversible and removable, as well as height adjustable with a large ergonomic twist-lock.
The legs have 23, 55 and 80-degree optimum shooting angles. The lowest angle available allows photographers to shoot as low as 11cm off the ground. 3 Legged Thing says the tripod can hold up to 10kg in weight, which is the largest capacity of any tripod in its class.
There is a patented tri-mount plate around the bottom of the head with offers hollowed spurs for accessory attachments. It also allows the tripod to counter fold without the centre column.
At full height, Patti reaches 1.63m (1.33m without centre column). The head that ships with the Patti kit is an AirHed Mini, a new simplified ball head which features one knob which controls both the friction of the ball head and the friction of the rotation together. There is another ergonomic knob for the camera plate, which can be quickly removed. There are spirit levels in the centre of the camera plate knob, on the side of the plate holder, and at the base of the centre column.
The tripod is mostly made from aircraft grade magnesium alloy, with the clip locks made from durable ABS plastic.
