Here are five ways to keep a photographer busy on grey, cloudy, rain-filled days.
| General PhotographyThe last few days of February have turned out to be rather grey and the weather really doesn't encourage a photographer to get their gear together for an outdoor shoot.
If you too still have grey clouds and dull light to contend with, why not turn your attention inside where there's still plenty to keep the photographer occupied?
Sort Out Your Images
OK, we know it's not exciting but keeping images organised and implementing some sort of structure to help you do this is important. Even more so if you have hundreds or even thousands of images hidden away on hard drives and memory cards. Plus, when the sun is out you really won't want to be sat in front of your computer sorting images so take advantage of the not-so great weather.
A great piece of software that many photographers are fans of is Lightroom and that's because it has been built around the workflow of Photographers. It has various tools built in to its system that make organising collections of images a lot easier. Plus you can keyword, add GPS information, rate your shots then edit and export them in various ways.
We have quite a few tutorials that look at Lightroom's various organisation tools and they can be found here:

Swat Up
Trying picking up a photography book, reading some techniques or if you've not done it yet, take a look at your camera's manual. It may sound boring but they do have some really useful information that's come straight from the people who designed it.
If you're looking for ways to expand your photographic knowledge, head over to ePHOTOzine's techniques section, ask your question in our forums or take a look at some of the photography books we've reviewed for titles you may be interested in. Shoot Some Household Objects
Just because you're not out in the countryside or photographing a model doesn't mean you can't exercise your shutter finger.
There are items and objects to capture shots of everywhere - even in your own home. You can go down the traditional still life route or find objects that are a little different for interesting macros. If you're an ebay fan, you may want to brush-up on your close up photography skills to really impress those buyers with your shots.

Have A Play With Portraits
A day when the sun is hidden behind clouds is rather good for shooting indoor portraits with window light. Thanks to the clouds acting as a giant softbox the light is more diffused and there for flattering for portrait work. Take a look at our post from a few days ago on on using window light for shooting portraits. For more portrait tips, take a look at our Portrait and People Photography Technique section.
Shoot Some Photos Of Food
Something you should have plenty of is food items. Be it a tin of beans or a few onions, all types of food can be turned into photographic subjects. Over in our technique section we have plenty of tutorials on how you can take photos of food that are good enough to eat. These include tips from Jamie Oliver and David Loftus, courtesy of Nikon, and advice from food and lifestyle photographer Taylor Mathis. Visit our Food Photograph techniques section for more tips.
