Remember Marques Brownlee? Last time we mentioned him on site, he was comparing the image quality of the OnePlus 3T, Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel XL, Apple iPhone 7+ and LG G6 to see which, in a blind test, would come out on top. This time, he's comparing smartphone photo quality once again but the phones on test are the newer OnePlus 6, iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL, Huawei P20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S9+.

As before, Marques captured identical photos with each smartphone and put them into a video you can watch above. The most common photos we capture are compared (landscape, portraits, architecture etc.) and no brands are mentioned to remove the unconscious bias we all have towards them (some believe it's actually brand loyalty that sways our opinion more so than the quality of the images produced).

Why not join in with the test yourself and let us know which smartphone image you picked as your favourite in the comments below. The blind image test starts at around the 1:40 mark, followed by the big reveal.

Good video. In fact I picked the one I really didn't expect [the S9] although I had different favourites for each of the tests and I didn't take a long time in making my pick.

The phone I actually own [the iPhone X] didn't actually appear in any of my picks, although as the presenter said, it isn't as if there's a huge difference in any of them and they all seem to perform reasonably well. My most use case is actually for panoramas and my iPhones have for several generations outperformed my dedicated cameras for ease, accuracy and resolution [because you pan in vertical orientation at full resolution].

Unfortunately [or perhaps happily] as a professional Mac user I'm more or less constrained to using iOS [for the best integration], so I'm not desperately unhappy about not owning the 'best' smartphone as a camera. Of course owning quite a few cameras helps as well...

I am liking E the best, the S9, for white balance, colour, detail, and clarity, closely followed by D, the Huawei Pro 20. Still using my LG-G2, and still liking it.
