Youtuber Run N Gun has put a great tutorial that gives you a quick-fire walk through 9 portrait lighting hacks in just 90-seconds.
"Light is the key to all photography - as you know, without light, there is no image. One skill that separates beginner photographers from the professionals is the ability to SEE LIGHT," says Run N Gun. "Using some of the photography light hacks in this 90-second run and gun tutorial, you can begin to See Light and how it can be manipulated to tell your story."
The 9 lighting tips included in the tutorial are:
- Using mouth wash to change the colour of light
- Changing a paper towel roll into a lighting snoot
- Diffusing light with a plastic bag
- Playing with prisms for creative shapes
- Using a placemat to create interesting shapes
- Fake fur makes for interesting shadow textures
- A bag of water will change how light falls
- Create more patterns with a pasta strainer
- Post-It Notes aren't just for messages - use them to add colour to shots
You don't need strobes and expensive speedlights to use these tips either as light from a torch or even a smartphone will work just as well.
