Albelli Software Performance

Installing the software was as easy as downloading it from Albelli's website, running the file and dragging an icon into the applications folder. Once the software is running you are presented with a splash screen with three options: Begin New Product, Open Recent Files and Open Existing File. When you create a new product, the software provides easy steps which provide you with the different products you can select.

Once you have completed selecting a product, the editor opens. On the left side you are provided with a way to browse the 'Pictures Folder'. If you have other locations you store photos, you can easily drag and drop the folders into the panel and they will be added to the list to choose from. Selecting a folder will display the photos within it in the panel below. You can resize the thumbnails with the slider to allow more or less photos to be viewable within the panel. There is also a search feature which makes it easier to search for photos by name.

On the right side you are presented with the selected page to edit at the top and a timeline at the bottom. The timeline allows you to cycle through the different pages of your photo book for editing.

Adding photos to a page is as easy as dragging the photo over the page and dropping it into place. You can also apply a number of different effects to your photos by first, selecting the photo and then clicking the edit button at the top. Once you have added a photo, a tiny indicator displays in the photo browser to let you know that you have included the photo. This can be a useful feature to help you keep track of which photos you have used.

Along with the photo effects, another new feature in this software are photo frames. This allows you to apply a downloadable photo frame which are accessed from the Assets window. There is a wide range of frame sets which should suit most occasions.

Adding text is just as easy as adding photos and you can change the font size and style. There does appear to be some speed performance issues when adding text on a page which has a background applied, but it is bearable. As the borders are stored "in the cloud" some of the more detailed choices can take longer to download.

Albelli Book Results

Albelli Book

The book arrived just over a week after the order was placed, with Albelli keeping me up to date with the process by email. I chose the fold flat option which inserts small bits of plastic in the spine of the book - this makes the pages lie completely flat when you open the book.

Flat pages

The cardboard cover is very thick which should provide additional protection to the pages. The pages themselves are quite thick, and the print quality is very good, although heavily dependant on your original photo quality, so it is important to choose your best shots.

Albelli Verdict

Overall the Albelli Editor Software is extremely easy to use. There isn't an overwhelming amount of features which means that Albelli has concentrated on providing only what is necessary and making sure that these features are done well. As the software is free to download and use, you can play with the layout and design to your hearts content until completely happy with the design and layout. Delivery is reasonably quick and the finished product is of very good quality.

The Albelli Editor Software is extremely easy to use and the finished book is good.
