Photoshop CC on iPad

Adobe has announced that the full version of Photoshop CC will be coming to the iPad, followed by other devices, in 2019.

This means you will be able to open and edit a PSD on an iPad, using the same tools you are familiar with on the desktop, and achieve the exact same results from editing operations. Then, if you want to, you can open that same PSD on your desktop and keep going, or complete all your work on the iPad. The PSD files are shared over the cloud and retain all of the pixels, even when opening on the iPad.

This is 'real' Photoshop on the iPad, sharing the same code base as its desktop counterpart, so there are no compromises on power and performance or editing results.

When you open Photoshop CC on the iPad, you will see the familiar toolbar that features the most-used tools to the left and the layer system to the right of the screen which, at first, will appear very minimal but you can 'pinch zoom' to access the layers panel in more detail. You’ll also find selections and masking, filters, adjustments and all of the other tools you've become familiar with in Photoshop CC.

Adobe describes the design of Photoshop CC on the iPad as 'scaffolding' as you can choose what you want to see and when you choose to see it. For example, if you don't need to view all of the details of every layer, you can minimise it to see more of your image.

As iPads are touch-sensitive, you can use your finger or Apple pencil to draw, pain, apply masks... etc. and you can also use different fingers to switch between tool functions to help speed up workflow as your eyes can remain on your image rather than searching for tools.

You might be wondering why it's taken so long to introduce a fully working version of Photoshop CC to the iPad but Adobe didn't want to introduce something that was half-hearted and buggy. Plus, they needed to ensure the power that was needed to run a full version of the software was built into each device.

As more information is released on the new version of Photoshop CC, we'll bring it to you on site.  and as you can imagine, we're very interested in getting hands-on with the iPad version when it becomes available as we'd like to see how functional it is on smaller iPads, such as the Mini, as well as the larger iPad Pro. Plus, we have questions such as are shortcut keys included? Will they be gesture-based? And, will it be made available as part of the Photography subscription level Adobe offers.

When it comes to a date when other devices and operating systems will have access to a full version of Photoshop CC, Adobe simply says 'when they are ready'.
