The title of 'The International Garden Photographer of the Year' has been awarded to amateur photographer Lee Acaster for his image of a birch tree captured on a dark and wet autumn morning in Snowdonia.

The competition judges have praised the 'depth and detail' in the image, commenting how it was a challenging yet spectacular scene to capture: "It has elevated a humble autumn birch into a stained glass window of nature – the more we look the deeper its meaning becomes."

Commenting on his winning entry, Lee Acaster said that the dark water behind the lake helped to isolate the form and texture of the tree while providing contrast to the individual leaves on the tree.

This is the 10th International Garden Photographer of the Year and other winning entries of this prestigious competition include a field decorated with white stars, Aberglasney captured on an autumn evening, a close-up of a Bergenia and a Marbled White Butterfly surrounded by beautiful bokeh highlights.

Below are the winners of each category in this year's competition and you can also find more information on the winners, as well as the runners-up, on the IGPOTY website
