Batis 1.8/85mm

Zeiss has announced the release of the Batis lens range, with two new lenses.

The Zeiss Batis f/2 25mm and Batis f/1.8 85mm are exclusively for Sony's E-mount full-frame cameras. These are the first full-frame autofocus lenses with an OLED display.

The display shows the distance of the focal plane from the camera system and the depth of field, and Zeiss say this ideally supports creative image composition.

If you're wondering where the name for this range of lenses came from, Zeiss have taken to naming Zeiss lenses in a series after the latin names for birds. They say this is appropriate as birds generally have excellent eyesight, are flexible and enjoy life. The name Batis is derived from a small bird that is found in Africa.

The wide angle 25mm and portrait 85mm lenses will be available from July 2015 and you can place your order for one now. The 25mm f/2 has an RRP of $1299 while the f/1.8 85mm has an RRP of $1199.
