Butterfly On Unfurling Fern Awarded Photo Of The Week

This week's Photo of the Week winner has been chosen, and this week it's been awarded to a wonderful butterfly image. 

The image, entitled 'Pearl Bordered Fritillary.' by NigelKiteley caught the eye of the team and here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade this week:

This is a well-framed image of a lovely specimen of pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly standing proudly on a fern branch that's just starting to unfurl. The browns, whites and oranges of the butterfly contrast nicely with the soft greens of the background and the fern, drawing your eye to this wonderful creature. 

Texture also plays a big part in this image, with the hairs on the body of the butterfly and on the fern itself - you can almost reach out and touch them. The subtle curls of the fern add some lovely shapes into the composition, and the entire fern branch and butterfly are perfectly sharp. This is a really well brought together image.
