The Belkin LiveAction Remote Control works with your iOS device via Bluetooth meaning you can take pictures or record videos from 30 ft away. It is small and light, making it easy to carry around, with the top part coming off to act as a stand for your iPhone, even if it is in a case. Being able to shoot from 30 ft away means you can get into group shots and take sharper pictures as you won't introduce any camera shake when pressing the release. The Belkin LiveAction Camera Remote is available from the Photojojo Store for $40 (approx £25.79 as of 31st May 2012).

Belkin LiveAction Camera Remote Handling
Before use, you need to install the batteries and pair the remote via Bluetooth with your device, there are full instructions included. The next step is to install the free LiveAction app, then you are able to shoot movies and videos. The connecting stand has an adjustable width, meaning you don't have to take your iPhone out of its case, unless you have a particularly bulky one. It's great that the stand for your iPhone connects to the remote itself, without adding much size. This is good as you can use your iPhone on a normal tripod, such as the Gary Fong Tripod Adapter and the remote still fits nicely in the hand.

Belkin LiveAction Camera Remote Performance
Thanks to Bluetooth you don't need a direct line of site between the remote and iOS device and although Belkin claim it's operational up to 30 ft, we managed to get to 89 ft (we ran out of space and it was raining outside), albeit with a clear line of sight, and we could still take pictures with the remote. There is a slight time delay between pressing the shutter release and the picture being taken, but given the circumstances that the remote will be used in, it's unlikely to effect your picture taking.![]() |

With the remote you can take shake free shots, particularly useful if you have bought a lens, such as the Vtec iPhone 12x Aluminium Telephoto lens, which will exaggerate any camera shake. The shots in the lens review were taken using the Belkin remote, ensuring they are as sharp as possible. One thing that does let it down is that it works only with the LiveAction remote and not with other photo apps.
Lastly, we discovered that if you press the picture taking button when not in the app it plays/pauses your music, with the movie record button skipping to the next track.
Belkin LiveAction Camera Remote Verdict
If you're a serious iPhoneographer, a remote control for picture taking will prove extremely useful for taking the sharpest shots possible. There are apps which have self-timers but this still involves the need to press the screen which may disrupt your composition. The remote will also prove useful for getting in those group shots without the need to set a timer and race into position.![]() |
The Belkin LiveAction Remote is a very useful iPhoneography accessory. |
