Benro 3XS Lite Gimbal Handling & Performance

The Gimbal feels good in the hand and controls are very ergonomic. The movement from using the joystick to pan is very smooth, and results in a very controlled movement.

Once you've downloaded the app and paired the Gimbal to your phone, you can use the gimbal to select settings through the phone and control it. The button underneath the trigger on the front switches between your front-facing and selfie cameras, and the customisable side button switches your phone between portrait and landscape mode.

Pressing the menu button brings up the menu which you can navigate using the joystick to select camera settings, gimbal settings and general settings. Easily flick between stills and video modes and select several different settings according to your subject. Pressing the record button on the gimbal immediately stops and starts your recording.

We shot footage with the gimbal running up and down a steep hill to test how well it copes with keeping footage smooth. We then shot the same footage on a hand-held smartphone (without stabilisation).

Overall, the gimbal gives much smoother footage, with the slightest movements picked up on counter-acted for. It also allowed us to pan smoothly around at the bottom of the hill, whereas the smartphone gave a very abrupt and jerky result.

The below video shows the gimbal in action running through all its features and movements.
