Bespoke Self-Made Camera Captures Iris Photos : Iris Photos

Felix Mayrl and Olivier Colin are two artists who are currently working on a photography project that's all about the human eye

The duo, who are collectively known as "Kollektiv-Lumen", say their artwork is a 'contemporary version of a humanistic photography' and so far, they've captured between 12,000 and 15,000 iris photographs.

The iris project began as a way for Kollektiv-Lumen to find out just how good cameras are at capturing the extreme detail of the human eye close-up but after a while, the duo soon realised it was the beautiful patterns the camera reveals that actually fascinates them the most.

With each photograph, Kollektiv-Lumen are both outlining the uniqueness of individuals and at the same time, are weaving a connection between all those who have their photograph taken.

Each photograph is constructed from multiple shots of the iris which are layered to create the final piece and the team use a self-developed macro-camera system to capture the high-resolution images.

Kollektiv Lumen will be bringing their Iris project to the upcoming Affordable Art Fair, in which they will use a bespoke self-made camera to take highly detailed photos of visitor's eyes. The Affordable Art Fair takes place from 8-11 March at Battersea Park.
