Drone

Drones, or unmanned systems as CES like to call them, are devices which really began to gain momentum in the popularity stakes last year and with drone exhibitors taking more space at CES than ever before, it doesn't look like they're going to be leaving the market anytime soon. In fact, with new flying guidelines coming in along with competitions that celebrate drone photography, it seems that drones will continue to feature on trending lists over the coming year and perhaps even beyond.

The drone exhibitor list is rather long but three you will probably recognise are DJI, Parrot and Lily. Both DJI and Parrot have announced new drones at CES while Lily is promoting the rather cute-looking 'throw-and-shoot' camera introduced last year. Below you'll find more information on the drones from these heavy-weights in the unmanned systems market, plus we'll be adding details of new drone technology from other lesser-known brands when we have more information for you.

DJI Introduce New Phantom Drone

Phantom 3 4K

DJI Drone

If there's one drone manufacturer name you know it'll probably be DJI and they've just enhanced their flagship drone collection with the introduction of the Phantom 3 4K at CES 2015.

"The Phantom 3 4K fills an important gap in our Phantom portfolio. It offers a high-quality camera and smart navigation system for a lower price than our professional models. This is possible, as we have replaced the DJI Lightbridge system with a built-in WiFi link." said Paul Pan, DJI’s Senior Product Manager.

The Phantom 3 4K comes with an integrated, gimbal-stabilised 4K camera, ultrasonic sensors and has remote-control buttons for playback, video recording and camera shutter.

As the Phantom 3 4K has been introduced, the original Phantom 3 Standard is currently on sale

Lily Throw-And-Shoot Camera

Lily

Lily is a drone that can be simply thrown into the air to begin the recording process. No controller is required with this smiling drone, users can ski, skate, run etc. and Lily will fly itself to capture your progress via a tracking device that can be fitted into a waterproof armband. Lily can capture 12Mp stills, 1080p HD video at 60fps and 120 fps Slo-mo at 720p.

The Lily Camera is just one of the devices that has won a CES 2016 Innovation Award - a competition that honours outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products.

Parrot DISCO Drone

DISCO

Parrot Drone

The DISCO drone is a little different to the normal drone designs we're used to seeing as it has mountable wings that are attached to the body so the device can be simply thrown into the air. It has a 45 minute flight time and Parrot says it's the first drone that 'everyone can easily pilot'.

Like Lily, the DISCO has been awarded a CES 2016 Innovation Award along with the Parrot Bebop Drone 2 and Parrot Hydrofoil Drone.
